My Dad's Band 'The Signs'. circa 1966
Was helping my dad move house the other week and whilst moving some boxes I found my Dad's first and only 7" single and a scrap book filled with newspaper cuttings from his band The Signs. They released their first single 'Ain't You Got A Heart' on Decca records in 1966. They split soon after because of differences with management and the fact that they were getting ripped off.
He said it was a magical time to be involved in the music scene.
He even shared the stage with The Beatles in one of his earlier bands called 'The Mystery Four' as a nervous 15 year old filling in as one of the other bands that did not turn up..
The single features my dad on lead vocals.
Below are a few words with the man himself, Tony Burns about playing at the world famous 'Cavern Club' and being signed by Dick Row (the first guy to turn down 'The Beatles').
Things changed and he met my Mum and now, retired financial advisor he still makes music in his spare time and yes he uses Logic and has a Mac!
Dad you are a constant inspiration to me.
My dad says they spent their advance on booze and guitars.....I suppose I am a chip off the old block after all.....
